How To Add Ringtones To A Cisco VOIP Phone

How To Add Ringtones To A Cisco VOIP Phone

Many companies have a need for multiple lines. To distinguish the difference between individual phone lines, different ring tones may be assigned. Most Cisco VOIP phones are pre-loaded with only two ring tones, but the two ring tones do not offer enough variety for some business owners. Ring tone files may be modified with the Cisco Call Manager program. To install custom ring tones, follow these instructions:

1. Activate Sound Recorder
On a computer with Cisco Call Manager software pre-installed, navigate to the Start menu. Then, click on Programs. Under Programs, access the Accessories folder. Within the Accessories folder, access Sound Recorder.

2. Select the Desired Ringtone
Click on File. File is located at the top of the Sound Recorder program. Then, click Open. Browse through the folders for MP3 and WAV files for different ring tones compatible with the Cisco VOIP phone.

3. Save the File
Return to the File menu. Select Save As. A drop-down menu will appear. Select the file labeled CCITT u-Law. A window will appear asking for new information. The file should be saved at 8 khz. Select 8-bit from the drop-down menu. Select the Header option by clicking on it and change the option to “No Header” and click “OK.”

4. Find the Saved Sound File
Close the sound recording program. Click on the My Computer icon. This icon is found on the desktop. Find the Cisco folder on the hard drive. Open the folder labeled “TFTPPath.” Open a second window and locate the saved sound file. Drag the file into the first window opened in the beginning step.

5. Replace the Ring Tone
Open file marked Ringlist.XML. The file is located in the TFTPPath folder. Find the files for entry. Delete the file name listed after this entry. Replace this name with the name of the new ring tone.

6. Replace the Sound File
Delete the file name after the entry. Replace it with the sound name chosen. More than likely would be a “.raw” file. Save the file and close it. This process will change the ringtone on a Cisco VOIP phone.

A Faster Way to Add Ringtones to a Cisco VOIP Phone
This method of installing ringtones is only one of many. Ringtones may also be installed by simply downloading the file to a USB drive. Some Cisco phones accept USB drives, and the file can be uploaded directly from the USB port. Simply press the “softkey” on the phone marked “From USB Port.” Press play and save the file to an empty location. This method is more convenient than using an external computer. Select most convenient and user-friendly method for your Cisco VOIP phone.

Why Are Ringtones Important
Ringtones will differentiate individual lines on the Cisco voice over ip phone. Business owners who simply enjoy variety will also find these ringtones refreshing and new. Ringtones also come in handy in a large office. When employees step away from their desks, they will be able to distinguish when their phone is ringing versus other employees’ phones.

Ringtones can break up the monotony in a day. When the old ringtone is barely distinguishable or fails to capture the employee’s attention, he or she can switch to another ringtone. Ringtones have multiple uses and are easy to install.

Microsoft and Skype announce the long-awaited VoIP app for Microsoft’s Windows Phone mobile operating system.

Skype has launched the beta of a Skype app for Windows Phone, with a gold (release candidate) version of the app becoming available in April.

Windows Phone users can download the app from the Marketplace, with Skype claiming that the release means that the VoIP service is now available on “almost all of the leading mobile operating systems”.
Talk for free

Users can make free audio and video calls to their Skype contacts on Wi-Fi, 3G and 4G connections as well as affordable calls to landlines and mobiles using Skype credit. It says that the client has been tested on a range of Windows Phone devices, including the Nokia Lumia 710 and 800, HTC Titan and Radar, and the Samsung Focus S and Focus Flash.

“One of the things we know people want to do on their phone is Skype,” said Terry Myerson, corporate vice president of Windows Phone. “The Metro design in the new Skype app for Windows Phone makes Skype shine in a whole new way, delivering a clean and simple experience.”

“Skype for Windows Phone Beta supports the most important Skype features you’ve come to know and love,” commented Rick Osterloh, vice president of products at Skype. “You will be especially thrilled by the clean and simple Skype experience that the Metro user interface delivers on your Windows Phone. It has never before been so easy to connect with the people you care about most.”

“This is only the beginning for Skype for Windows Phone … it’s just going to get better and better,” he promised. “We see incredible potential to include Skype capabilities in Windows Phone in order to enable a great experience for you.”

Last month, at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, a Skype executive said that a Skype client would be released soon. Microsoft purchased Skype last October in an $8.5 billion (£5.4bn) acquisition, while in November, Skype improved its integration with Facebook, allowing its users to call each other directly through the social network.

Twilio Client for iOS extends the power of VoIP to any iOS developer

Twilio ( http://www.twilio.com ), the market leader in cloud communications, is announcing the launch of Twilio Client for iOS. The product, which is a simple software development kit (SDK), makes it incredibly easy for mobile developers to integrate voice over IP (VoIP) capabilities into their iPad, iPhone and iPod touch apps, essentially turning any part of an app into a fully functional VoIP phone. With Twilio Client for iOS, developers can add VoIP features to existing apps or build totally new kinds of apps from scratch.

“Twilio’s mission is to open the black box of telecom and make its power accessible to developers everywhere,” said Twilio CEO and Co-founder Jeff Lawson. “With Twilio Client for iOS, we’re enabling mobile developers to incorporate VoIP directly into their apps to create rich communication experiences. We can’t wait to see what they build.”

With Twilio Client for iOS, developers can create apps that:

– Let users make phone calls through any iOS device with a data connection (including iPad and iPod touch)

– Allow businesses to deploy mobile agents anywhere with nothing but an iPad and a headset

– Deploy tap-to-call features within apps that feed rich information to CRM, advertising or analytic partners

In addition, Twilio Client for iOS comes with online presence built in, so users can detect when another user is available for a voice chat.

With Twilio Client for iOS, RingDNA built an enterprise-ready iPad app that provides companies with actionable marketing and sales data that includes call tracking, intelligent call routing, CRM integration and click-to-call functionality.

“Because of Twilio’s rock-solid client for iOS SDK, our developers could focus on RingDNA’s core cloud marketing, sales and service features without bearing the prohibitive cost of creating the telephony API ourselves,” said Howard Brown, CEO of RingDNA.

Developers can visit http://www.twilio.com/api/client/ios to get started with no contracts or setup fees. An Android version of Twilio Client is also in private beta, interested participants can visit http://www.twilio.com/api/client to request access.
